Dress Up Your Arbor Swing With Plants

By:

An arbor swing is a decorative way to make your garden look like it is from the pages of a storybook. It will not only look beautiful but it will also be effective in providing a place to sit and swing under the beauty of nature. There are many different advantages of owning an arbor swing which correspond to the type of plants you can dress it up with. Here are four popular plants used to decorate an arbor swing.

1. Honeysuckle Vines

Decorating your arbor swing with honeysuckle vines is a popular idea because they are known for their beautiful smell. Honeysuckle vines are a great idea for arbor swings because they are fairly easy to care for because they do not require a lot of watering to survive. They also flourish when they are exposed to direct sunlight for the majority of the day, making these plants ideal for most garden areas. Another great aspect of honeysuckle vines is that they will attract hummingbirds and butterflies, which is a perfect option for nature lovers who wish to sit on their arbor swing and watch birds. Honeysuckle will also grow at a fast pace when planted in the beginning of the spring.

2. Roses

Roses are, of course, a very iconic flower due to their beauty and these flowers will look stunning when planted to decorate an arbor swing. Roses are also great flowers for decorating because they come in a variety of colors and can make your garden "pop" when they are all mixed together in one area. Roses will also be a very fragrant flower to sit and enjoy on your arbor swing.

Training roses to climb is the most difficult care procedure when using roses, but it can be done. Caring for roses is also more involved than caring for honeysuckle vines, but it is also a rewarding process. The roses on the arbor swing will also need to be groomed regularly and cannot be exposed to sun for as long as honeysuckle vines.

3. Black-eyed Susan Vines

Black-eyed Susan vines will also be a great plant to use when dressing up your arbor swing because of their beauty and low-maintenance qualities. These plants are also great for arbor swings in very hot and humid areas because they tolerate those conditions well. The only problem with Black-eyed Susan vines is that they will not tolerate frost, so they will only bloom in the early summer to fall. They will also do well in direct sunlight but do require partial shade.

4. Climbing Hydrangeas

Climbing Hydrangeas is one of the most popular plants to use when decorating arbor swings. These plants are extremely easy to take care of because they need hardly any pruning or training to climb. They will also be the best option for arbor swings which are placed in shady areas but they will also survive in sunlight. Climbing Hydrangeas do require some patience because they are slow to grow during their first season.

Whatever plant you decide will look best on your arbor swing, always consider the care factors and characteristics of each plant. It is also best to realize your own needs and what you want the flowers for, whether it be fragrance, ease of care, looks, or all of the above.
