If one talks about reality television, one name that always comes into mind is that of the Amazing Race, a show which has redefined reality television on American television. In fact not only in America, it has changed the scene worldwide. The show basically is a race between various teams in which the teams have to perform different and difficult tasks. It is these tasks that make the race amazing.

All the teams compete for the huge prize of $ 1,000,000. The team consists of either 2 or 4 members which compete together against other teams. Beginning from a city in US, the race spans a number of countries where various tasks are performed. At each place there is a new task to be performed.

The teams are eliminated on the way based on their performance. The team that reaches last at a particular pit spot (checkpoint) is subsequently eliminated while the remaining move on. All through the race, the crew travels along with the teams. A two person crew travels with each team.

The people that are going to participate in the race are selected through interviews that are conducted in multiple stages nationwide. The teams are formed and all the rules and regulations for the race told and teams are provided with things they may require during the race. They are given a fixed amount of money on which they have to survive throughout the race.

Elise Doganieri and Bertram van Munster are the people behind creating this show. Phil Keoghan who is an award winning New Zealand TV personality has been the show of the host through all seasons of the show. There have been 16 shows of the show so far, with each season performing fairly well.

The figures clearly show the success that the series has enjoyed. The viewer ship has been around 10 million viewers per year. As mentioned above the Primetime Emmys award has put the show in a different league. Owing to the success the Amazing Race has had each year at the awards; some people in media have requested the producers of Amazing race to drop out from the race to give others a chance.

The producers believe that the awards show the dedication and the hard work put in by all the members of the crew to make the show a success. The award acts as recognition to the dedication. Therefore the producers did not accept the request.
