Dos And Don'ts For Tropical Christmases

Dos And Don'ts For Tropical Christmases

Heading to the tropics for Chrsitmas? Lucky you. Get some colour, have some fun, but be safe. Here are some dos and don'ts for this holiday vacation.

Do: Get Some Colour On The Beach

There's nothing quite like escaping the winter cold and venturing to the sun. I personally love the idea of reaching into the back of my closet to find my tshirts and sundresses that have been buried for far too long. I love the idea of walking around in my bare feet and feeling nothing but warmth on my soon-to-be brown skin for days and days. Enjoy it. Go to the beach lay out and let the warm weather and ocean breeze sweep you into another world.

Don't: Get Red Colour (a.k.a. burnt) On The Beach

While tanning and relaxing in the sun is great fun, having to stay inside for the rest of your holiday thanks to a sunburn is not. Moreover, lobsters are nice to eat not look at, so be safe. Even darker skinned people get burned when they arrive in super hot places like Mexico and the Carribean. Sunscreen is a must especially the first couple of days of your holiday. Also remember to drink lots of water and get out of the sun and sit in the shade every now and then.

Do: Have Fun

Vacation is about having fun and there are few places where that is more true then on a beach. There is something about the hot weather, the gorgeous people, and the sun that doesn't set until 10 pm that has even the tamest of us partying like rock stars! Enjoy it, you're on vacation!

Don't: Have So Much Fun You Get Yourself Into Trouble

I say enjoy it, but what I really mean is enjoy it responsibly. Young people especially have a tendency to get a bit wild on their holidays. They think they're invisible and as a result sometimes drink too much and trust everyone around them. It's not a bad thing to have fun, but people shouldn't forget that they're not home. They're on someone else's turf where they may not speak the language or know their full rights. Stay safe and be responsible.

Do: Use The Time To Relax

While vacations are for having fun and partying, they're also for the much needed relaxation few of us are offered throughout the year. So many of us have the endless responsibilities of work, school, children and other time consuming commitments that have us waking up earlier then we'd like. Vacations are meant for catch up, to recharge our batteries so that we can return to our hectic lives feeling more prepared then we were when we left.

Don't: Sleep Your Way Through Your Entire Vacation

Sleeping and resting is good, but don't forget that you've taken the trouble to go away so enjoy it. If all you wanted to do was sleep then you could have stayed home rented a hundred movies and stocked your cupboards with homey, comfort food. But you didn't. You booked yourself a trip to a beautiful part of the world so take the time to wander around, speak to locals, try the local cuisine and do something a bit different from your norm.

What are some of the holiday dos and don'ts you swear by?
