Launched in 1909 under the title H. P. Newman, it changed its trading name to Dorothy Perkins in 1919. Within the 1960s, Dorothy Perkins was controlled by the Farndon family. Staff in the branches could anticipate normal visits from Alan Farndon, whose image was printed in a booklet handed to new employees.
