Dont Just Rely On Driving Lessons

By:

When learning to drive in the United States they have a very different approach to us in the United Kingdom. As you can see in the following article.

Ever since the Model T, teenagers have relied on their parents for their first driving lessons, and even way back then, parents have been sorry they even tried to give driving lessons. There is nothing more stressful than putting your teenager behind the wheel of the family car, and you next to him, hoping you both get home safely. Teaching your child how to make a U-turn on a hill is no picnic!

Which is exactly why professional driving schools came about. Whether you send your child to a local private driving instructor, and have him attend classes at his own high school, rest assured that the instructors and the equipment are all specially equipped to handle the problems and the stress of putting 16 year old children on the open road.

Most courses have 12 lessons - 6 where the student drives, and 6 where he watches and observes. Many parents feel that six on the road lessons isn't quite enough, and all parents realize that the six observation lessons are pretty much a waste of time since no one other than the driver and the instructor are paying attention to anything.

In reality, these driving lessons don't actually cover much. There is no way that six 20 minute lessons will prepare anyone for the real dangers on the road. Videos are thrown in for good measure, though. These usually show plenty of blood and guts of young people lying in the middle of the road, accidents caused by recently licensed teenagers whose young brains, according to new scientific research, don't function completely until the age of 21.

With all these lessons, and the new drivers license, he still needs further instruction from his parents. He can't be expected to know everything after only a few months of classes and some videos.

Parents - you need to teach them the rest for their own safety, and those around them. In the United Kingdom students will have as many as thirty or even forty lessons and will not be allowed to take the test until the instructor, pupil and parent believe that he or she is ready to take it on.

Even once a learner has passed their test they are required to show new driver plates on their vehicle to make others aware.
