Don't Snub Style, Create A Retro Photo Book

By:

Creating an album for posterity used to involve pritt stick, sellotape, a scrap book or two and a set of colouring pens. As a child we were all encouraged to keep a scrap book for mementos. I remember sticking in dried daisies, feathers from the beach, favourite bits of fabric, locks of hair and of course photos of friends and family. Since the digital revolution, scrap books of this sort have gone out of fashion somewhat. We take a look at the changing nature of the photo book and tell you just how you can capture that retro feel digitally.

Digital photography has become popular because it is cheap and easy to take and make photos. All the latest cameras are full of functions that make it possible to take a perfect picture at the touch of a button. Film on the other hand has become an expensive and time consuming way to take pictures and is being left to the true film photography enthusiasts.

To recapture the days where sticking random items into a scrap book was the thing to do, then get yourself a scanner and it will become your best friend. By scanning favourite personal items, you can include the images when creating a photo book. Make a background for each page that is full of personal memorabilia, notes from friends, even scans of text messages that you have received.

By including pictures of personal items when compiling a photo book, it is possible to create a truly memorable album that you can treasure forever. Instead of creating background wallpaper, take photos of precious items to include amongst regular photos. A favourite method is to emulate film photography. The very nature of the medium meant that many photographs were out of focus, badly framed, terribly lit or just took pictures of not much at all.

It may sound crazy to try and take a bad photo, but it will add to the overall photo book to create a diverse album that will never be dull to look through. Finally, make sure that you add text to a photo book. Why not choose a font that is reminiscent of the felt tip pens you used to use in a scrap book. Choose bold bright colours and label each page or picture with the date and a description of who is in the photo and where it was taken. It is also an interesting idea to add a little note about the best thing that happened that day for something to savour in the future.
