Don't Let Relationship Stress Do You In

By:

Most of the time it is the relationships in our lives that set the mood for our existence and while we may be up when our personal relationships are going well the world had better watch out when we are on the outs with someone we care about. Studies show that married people live longer than single people and yet the same studies show that if you are in a bad marriage that could shave more years off your life then being single. At first glance this may seem a little odd but when you consider the negative effects that stress has on our health it may bring the issue into better focus.

It is no secret that stress is alive and well and effects every aspect of life. High levels of stress will affect personal relationships as well as factor into our personal daily care. Anyone stressed out will allow for less time caring for themselves or their health or their well being.

The effects of a stressful relationship go far beyond the obvious signs of depression, trouble sleeping, staying focused and enjoying life and only increased depression which if not derailed will decrease productivity, cause energy loss and wreck havoc on the immune system. This will compromise the health state of any ones body.

Stress is also by far one of the leading causes of overeating and one way that you can tell when an individual is in an unhappy relationship is by looking at how much weight they have gained in that relationship. While being overweight used to be a sign of wealth, it has more recently become a sign of increased stress and depression. The less worthy people feel and the more lethargic the more they eat to try and sustain the function of their body. Those in a healthier relationship tend to take better care of themselves and thus tend to sustain their weight within relatively standard guidelines.

Those who are in a stressful relationship need to take steps to improve their relationship and their lives and to reduce their stress. Perhaps this can be accomplished with yoga and meditation, through marriage counseling, or even through individual therapy. While it is ideal to find a balance and to improve your current relationship it is also important to realize that not all relationships are healthy for both parties and when you begin to realize that a relationship is putting undo stress on your body, mind, and health then it may be time to cut your losses and move on. After all, there is no relationship that is worth risking your life for.
