Don't Get Sick When You Run Your Own Business!

By:

Running your own business from home has numerous benefits and rewards!

These may include;
You are your own boss. You determine your work hours. No one else tells you when to take lunch. You choose how many holidays you get and when they are. Days off are available when desired or when obligations require. The rewards usually equal how much time and energy you put into your business. No one else tells you what to do, when to do it or how it should be done. You are able to easily have inexpensive lunches (sometimes prepared for you). You are basically in control.

But along with these benefits there are many responsibilities and what some would call negative aspects.

Possibly included;
You must be capable of managing your time well. Excessive work ~ it is simple to work long hours while working at home. You must be disciplined when taking on work. There is the responsibility for paying your own taxes and superannuation. Holidays and holiday pay aren't guaranteed, only if it is in your budget. There are often more distractions working from home in regards to family. If you fall sick, you aren't paid.

This last point is very important. Many home based businesses are manned by a single operator. There may be associates and outside contractors who undertake some work, but on the whole there is a single manager or overseer of the business.

When this person gets sick, work inherently stops! No work, no earnings. This is the reality that home based businesses must deal with. While one heals and gets back on their feet, there is no 'sick pay' available. This in turn, can cause huge amounts of additional stress when working from home, the need to get well quickly and return to work.

This I believe is one of the most difficult and challenging aspects of running your own business and which for the most part the view is "Don't get sick".

What, then, matters most to at-home businesses? You need to be aware of all the above information and make decisions and choices to ensure you reap the rewards and benefits while taking into consideration the negatives.

Therefore the following points should be undertaken; allocate business/work hours. Don't work too excess which results in you becoming run down and subsequently sick, which results in lost work hours anyway. Ensure you take regular breaks, just like you would in a position of employment. Eat well and make sure you drink water regularly. Decide and discuss with family members how working from home is going to be undertaken and the relative boundaries. It is not very gratifying to work and not play, make time for pleasurable activities. Plan holidays and take them. For both accounting and taxes have a set process.

Being your own boss is a very liberating choice which i believe has many more benefits than negatives. You just need to be mindful of the pitfalls you can easily fall into and take measures to ensure that you don't fall.
