Don't Fall For The Empty Promises Of Fad Diets To Lose Weight

By:

Once you realize it's time to start doing something to lose some of those extra pounds you have packed on over the years, it is typical for people to look for the easiest way to get them off. Fad diets are appealing because they usually promise to do just that, help you lose weight with minimal effort on your part. The problem with fad diets is that their fat-reducing effect is temporary and usually results in you regaining the weight back rather quickly. But even worse than that is that most of these fad diets are actually harmful to your health.

The way these diets typically work is that you consume higher amounts of fats or proteins and minimal or no carbohydrates. It is actually the low amount of carbohydrates that causes the rapid weight loss. The reality is that the weight that you lose so rapidly is only water that glycogen has stored. Once you lose glycogen, the water that is stored in the glycogen is also lost and your bodyweight drops. The problem is that you never lose body fat and as you begin to get off the diet, the body regains the water you lost and so is the weight.

In a normal diet, carbohydrates or "carbs" are the source of energy the body uses to work. But with fad diets where carbs are limited or non existent, the body begins to break down stored fat to use for energy. This would be a great result under normal circumstances but with the absence of the carbs, the fats cannot be completely broken down and put to work. This will give you the feeling of being weak and tired. Furthermore, you will likely become dehydrated from keytone molecules that accumulate in the blood in the fat-breakdown process. These molecules are then excreted out thru your urine causing dehydration.

Besides the obvious health issues these types of diets create, remember that these diets don't offer a long term solution to being overweight. There is only one solution to weight problems and that is through proper diet and exercise. There are many well designed weight loss plans on the market today that teach you how to choose the right foods to eat and provide an exercise regiment to complete the plan. In fad diets, you will most likely get a diet plan that limits natural food choices, a promise for quick and easy weight loss, many before and after pictures with testimonials and probably cost a lot of money. Don't fall for their empty promises. If you truly want to lose weight and get into shape, it will take hard work and dedication through diet and exercise not "smoke and mirror" fad diets.
