Don't Be Taken For A Fool By Shill Web Hosting Reviews

By:

Shills are people who try to trick others into buying products and services that are theirs or are associated with. They act as if they are separate users of their products or services thereby duping potential customers into purchasing whatever they are offering. For example, you may find shills in auctions bidding on their own items to get other bidders to go higher.

Shills will present web hosting reviews on supposedly "Independent" review sites that on careful inspection will have very many affiliate links. These are attempts by the marketers behind these sites to be given a commission for every sale that they make. These links create a huge conflict in interest because they will say anything in their attempts to make a sale.

Before you enter into a sales agreement with any web hosting provider, you are advised to read available web hosting reviews on that particular hosting provider. By reading all web hosting reviews available for that provider you get to know the advantages and disadvantages of their services. There are many web hosting reviews sites and therefore more than enough reviews for any provider.

There are, however, some reviews that are written by web hosting affiliate sales persons who want to make commissions and therefore will probably give information that is not true in order to make the sale. These is the lifestyle of a shill.

One way of noting shill web hosting reviews is that their sites will review about 3 - 10 different web hosts, A few will have a low rating; another lot will have a mediocre rating, and one will have the highest rating of five stars. That is the hosting service that they want you to sign up on, though this may not necessarily be the best. They are only after the sale and so you should be careful of such reviews.

Shill web hosting reviews will be found mainly forums, blogs, review sites and anywhere else where they can post. When you read web hosting reviews by a reviewer, consider:

How long has the poster been a member of that particular forum?
New members are of course entitled to post on forums but should the post be too sugary and biased then one should treat it as fake.

How long has the company featured in the web hosting review been in business?
If the company is too new then any review should be scrutinized carefully especially if they claim to have had a long time experience with the particular company.

Check and see what other reviews say.
If a web hosting review for a particular company is found in too many forums and blogs, and tends to be positive all the time without a negative review at all, then the possibility of it being a shill web hosting review is high.

Does the review site validate the review made by the poster?
Good review sites will ask the poster to provide a domain hosted by the host they are reviewing to prove that they indeed have an experience with the hosting company being reviewed and recommended.

Should you suspect that a review has been posted by a shill then report this to the staff of the reviewing site and seek information elsewhere concerning that particular hosting company.
