Doll Dress Patterns-size Is Not The Only Difference

By:

Doll dress patterns may at first glance appear like tinier renderings of a pattern you would use to sew adult clothing or a child's clothing. Though size is a main part when sewing clothing for dolls, there are more things to ponder - the less noticeable dissimilarities of a doll-size pattern.

One of the not so conspicuous distinction is that a doll-size pattern must take into thought the inflexible build of a doll's arms, legs and other body parts. We can help a child fit into their clothing by showing them how to bend their arms or force their heads through a tight neckline. The clothes we construct for dolls must be able to accommodate fixed joints.

The doll's heads are out of proportion to the size of their necks. The pattern-designer needs to consider this. If you're designing your own pattern, you'll need to think about that, also. When it comes to the neck region, we normally accommodate for the large size of the head by making the neck opening larger than usual. If a crafter wants a greater fitted look at the neckline, this goal can be realized by putting snaps or tiny buttons in the back. The opening is still big enough for the head to fit through, but the finished, front-viewed result would be that of a close-fitting neckline.

Doll clothing patterns come in different sizes to adapt to many sizes of dolls. While you can rely on the sizing to some extent, it is still a very good idea to take the dolls' measurements. Once you've sewn a pattern with success, you can utilized it for other dolls of the same build. You can also re-use a pattern to create clothing for that same dolls. By making little changes, everyone of the dresses you create can be different. As an illustration, you might use a variation in collars, a variety of fabrics or add rick-rack to design a different dress from that pattern.

To make your handiwork unusual, it is a good idea to start with basic doll clothing patterns. Uncomplicated patterns are simpler to alter and they're easier to work with different sized dolls. A pattern may include different pattern pieces in order to let you create a variety of styles of outfits. For example, you could have the choice of leaving off the sleeves in order to create a sleeveless dress. Doll dress patterns that start with a basic idea and then include a variety of options are usually the most pleasing to work with.
