Doing Your Home Improvements After You Have A Fire

By:

After a house fire, there is likely to be damages that must be repaired. When you have a fire in your house there can be the fire damage from the flames of course, but there can also be damage from water and smoke. The insurance you have on your home should covers all kind of fires like electrical fires, candle fires, cooking fires, and more. Fire can burn everything in your house, things that are connected to the house, and your personal things as will.

After a fire, things may have to be taken out of the home to get repaired and cleaned. Walls and floors may have to be ripped out and replaced due to the damage from the fire. The wiring will have to be checked because it can be burned or melted. They also have to be checked because it can start another fire if it is not repaired before power is restored. You might have appliances that were damaged and must be replaced especially if the fire was in the kitchen.

The smoke is very harmful to you and it can cause you problems. Black soot stains can be everywhere in the home, even places where the flames never reached and the smell can be everywhere too. It can settle into your furniture, clothing, insulation, carpets, woodwork, and even plastics. Even after cleaning your ceilings, walls, and floors, you might have to repaint if the stains are set in. Your insurance should cover the cost of any professionals you need to do repairs and cleaning. If your fire was put out with water, there could be water damage to clean up as well as the smoke damage.

You can have your house restored the same way or you can have other improvements made. Your insurance will pay for the home to be restored to the previous condition, but any additions or other improvements will likely have to be paid for by you. Before they will start, they will look over the whole house to see what is damaged and how bad it is. If you can afford to make changes that have been wanting to get done, now while the repair process is going on could be the best time.

Everything will be in disarray anyway and a little more work done during this time might be the most convenient way to get it done. It might seem strange to think of a fire as a good opportunity to remodel, but actually it could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.
