Dog Obedience For Aggressive Dogs!!

By:

Having a dog in your life can be wonderful, and the unconditional love they give is comparable to none. But what if your dog is beginning to exhibit aggressive behaviour, similar to a child who is suddenly out of control. Early abuse may be the reason for the change in what seemed a happy go lucky character, or what is more common the lack of training in the early days of the dogs life. It will not make you feel any better to know that the neighbours in your street are aware of his aggression and you wonder how long it will be till they do something about it.

You had always wanted to own a dog and the day had finally arrived to visit Max named by his owner who required a new home for him. Walking up to the gate you were met with a barking dog that seemed to totally ignore any commands from his current owner. You discounted this as you had been told a guard dog would be good as you lived alone,.Had you brought a dog obedience trainer with you they would have pointed out that this was not good behaviour. Once inside the house you sat on the floor in order for Max to feel comfortable with you, this was another thing that had been suggested and it seemed to work well. You took a shine to this dog so bundled him into your car and took him home where the two of you could get to know each other in his new environment.

Next morning you could not wait to show off your new baby and off you went for your first walk with Max. It was lovely morning; the sun was out, almost the perfect day. Along the road Mrs Jones was coming toward you as she normally did at this time and what happened next was to change your life forever, The lead that connected you and Max suddenly went tight and you felt your whole body being pulled down the road. Max then leapt upon Mrs Jones knocking her to the ground and preceded to bark and snarl at her before attempting to take a bite out of her arm. Luckily she had a thick overcoat on so he missed his target. By the time you manage to push through the shock and pull Max off her it suddenly hit you that Max had some serious behaviour issues. Mrs Jones was shaken but being the nice lady she was agreed to let me have time to address the problem of Max's aggression.

Was Max a victim of abuse? Or was his previous owner ignorant or lazy when it came to his former dogs early puppy training. The local vet can be a vast source of experience and information when it comes to situations like this and the first port of call as advice would most likely be dog obedience classes accompanied by training in the home. These classes are great as the dog can work with new people and dogs and learn what is acceptable or not. They have these classes in most areas and are not usually expensive, It is important to know that fear is the common reason dogs attack people or other dogs and can be turned around with the right support and training.

Basic training can be started at any time of a dog's life. Teaching him to come when you call is probably one of the most important in this case. Never yell, scream or hit the dog you will only escalate the problem. At first walk Max in the park or somewhere away from dogs and people until he is ready to behave in a pleasing way. Remember this is not his fault, if the previous owner had put some basic dog obedience in place in his puppy days Max would not be so out of control. There is light at the end of this doggy tale, as by teaching Max basic commands with the help of treats to come when you call you will have begun a new chapter in his life. It will be worth it and Max will thank you for it.
