This singular, essential component to your dogs training is so significant because if you can get this right in a place where you and your dog don't recognize, then training your dog at home will be so much easier. It would be great if your dog had a switch to make them be good all thtime but unfortunately there isn't, You need to hear this before you can move forward, however leash training should be easy because you'll get the opportunity to do this at least once everyday.
Your dogs frame of mind before you take him out will be that of pure unadulterated excitement and he will have a look of glee across his panting face. This is because most owners tell their dog that they are going out by saying a certain word to them in a silly voice. Most keepers find this amusing these same people will then punish their dogs for carrying on this excitement outside. You shouldn't do this because it will only make your
dog leash training efforts all the more difficult.
If you do this you'll be making life so difficult for yourself and without even knowing it you'll be failing before you even begin.
So how to train your dog by using a leash
To begin with you will need a leash that is about 4-5 foot long. Make sure you also have a properly fitting collar, enough so that you can get two fingers between the collar and your dogs fur well.
Then select a phrase which will be used to tell your dog to stop pulling, this needs to be very short and sharp and this must be a word you can give with a harsh tone.
I like to use "Heel" or "Wait." Then you'll need a separate instruction for getting your dog to move again.
When your dog begins to pull give your command and get your dog to come back and to sit by your side, ensure he has fully settled down and then start walking again. Try to get him into a sitting state and don't let him lead off, you start walking and call him to follow you. Use a piece of meat or a biscuit in the beginning to entice him back to your side but always couple this with a command to get him to come back to you.
When dog leash training you want your dog to walk on a loose leash and to listen to you whenever you give a command.
This is real important because if you let your dog run wild on the lead just imagine what he'll be like when off.
