Dog Training the Basics

What is it that you actually need to do when you start training your dog? There are a number of different basic technique's that should be covered during the training that will form the foundation to achieving your goal; to modify your dog's behavior. Here are some of the basics things that should be covering when starting a training program:

The first thing is obedience to its name. Your dog needs to learn to come to you when you call it, every time without fail. This is rudimentary and absolutely vital to the owner pet relationship as well as the well being of the dog. You need to be confident that if you call your dog in any situation it will respond immediately this is the foundation of the training which will be built on during the next stages.

The next stage would be to teach your dog the commands "sit" and "down". This teaches them another vital component, self control and will help you control the dog in many situations such as, when there are other dogs around conflict needs to be avoided or if there is a toddler in the vicinity of the dog to avoid a collision.

"Potty training" is another essential area of learning that will ensure you and your dog can live together happily. This is also the number one reason people decide to get rid of there dogs that could quite easily be avoided by applying the right techniques early on in the dogs training.

One of the hardest things to teach your dog is to bark only when it is necessary. You have to try and train your dog to bark as a form of effective communication rather then as an obsessive compulsive.

Another vital step in your dogs training is to control the aggression of your dog. In order to do this effectively you need to understand where the aggression in your dog is coming from. Some dogs naturally develop aggressive they naturally want to protect there environment from intruders. Other dogs develop aggressive behavior when other dogs are around, and they want to be protective towards you and your family. Careful attention need to be paid to aggressive behavior in dogs, you might need to get professional help in order to resolve your dogs aggressive behavior.

These are some of the basics behavioral skills you need to train into your dog. Helping your dog to master these basic skills will improve the relationship between the dog and the owner. A well trained dog makes for a happy dog and an even happier owner.
