Dog Coats Becoming More And More Popular In Uk

Giant UK-based pet retailer Pets at Home has reported that the sales of dog coats rose dramatically this past winter with a 70% increase in sales, due in part to the unusually cold weather and record snows. Pets at Home went on to report that the sales of products that help to keep pets of all types warm, such as rabbit hutches, helped the company to achieve record, strong sales.

During the fourth quarter of 2009, Pets at Home saw an increase of 6.7% in the sale of Dog clothing. Clearly, the cold weather that plagued the greater part of 2009 was a positive thing for Pets at Home, as pet and animal lovers rushed out to purchase clothing, boots, shelters and food for their four-legged and winged friends.

Dog coats have always had a stigma attached to them, as many people viewed them as unnecessary. However, over the past few years viewpoints have changed as more pet owners have discovered the benefits of putting a coat on their family pet while out walking with it. Dog coats are especially good for certain short-haired breeds that are low to the ground, as the coat keeps the wet, snowy slush off the dog's underside and prevents snow from clumping up under a dog's legs - which is actually quite painful to the animal. Dog coats are available in many styles and can be made of canvas, wool or heavy cotton. They are easy to put on and very simple to care for as they can be washed in the washing machine right along with the family laundry.

Pets at Home sells dog clothing in all of its retail stores. The associates working in the stores are more than happy to assist customers in choosing a coat that would be appropriate for their particular pet.
