Mantels can be purchased made out of different materials:
Limestone, travertine and some marble mantels can be custom made to size. Cast stone mantels come in preset sizes. There are insert filler pieces to fill in the area around the opening of the fireplace. You can also purchase a matching hearth for your floor. Precast mantels have the look of the limestone and they are made of a gypsum, fiberglass, concrete and a plaster mix, thus creating a lighter weight mantel. They come in set sizes but can sometimes be adjusted in height or width. Matching hearths are also available.
Wood mantels are available in full mantels with legs or as a shelf only or cap mantel. They can be custom made to virtually any size you want. You can also add corbels or skirts to wood mantels to dress them up and give them a different look.
