Does Your Business Smell Like Mold

By:

The customers that come into your place of business are in a sense your lifeline. You want your store or other type of business place to look and smell nice. It needs to look clean, smell clean, and be clean even you you are clothier and not a restaurant. No one wants to shop in or seek services in a business that is supposed to be a clean environment if it is not. Now, when you walk into a mechanic shop to have your car serviced, you might not be offended by oily smells and a little grease and grime because in this type of business that is to be expected.

Even if your place of business looks very clean, if it does not smell clean, it can still be offensive to a customer especially if you are in a food business or restaurant of some kind. Who would want to eat in a smelly restaurant? You might clean and clean and still have a musty odor that you can not quite put your finger on. You might think that it is just because the building is old and that there is nothing you can do about it. You could be right, then again, you might have a mold problem.

If you have a restaurant, you might have inspections conducted frequently because it is required. You are more likely to know sooner rather than later if there is any mold in your building. A restaurant with mold can be closed down until the problem is removed because mold spores can travel through the air. They can come out through the heating and air conditioning vents. People breath them in and make them sick.

If your business building has hidden mold, it can be because there is leaking going on somewhere you might not know about or you might have a moisture problem. Either way, if you can not locate the cause of the mold and remove it your self, it might well be necessary to call in a water damage company to find the problem. They can first test the air in your establishment to see if mold spores are present. If they find them then they can conduct tests on the walls and other places to try and find where it is hiding.

Hopefully, if they do find it, it will only be in one or two isolated places, but if the mold has developed because of a serious moisture issue, it could be almost everywhere. How this mold remediation is paid for will depend on several factors. If you own your building, you will need to contact your business insurance agent and find out if you are covered for mold removal and how much they will pay for. If you rent your building, then your landlord will have to take care of the problem with his insurance company. If you rent your building and have renter insurance, you might be able to collect if any of your resale merchandise has been damaged.
