Does The Early Bird Catch The Worm?

Much tends to be made of the concept that joining an enterprise in its infancy can confer many advantages. You may have heard the comment or perhaps been posed the question, what if you had been in at the beginning of Microsoft, seen the opportunity video presented , capitalised on the mobile phone explosion, foreseen the growth of E Bay or identified the home computer market? Clearly these areas had income potential and there is ongoing profit to be made from most for some years.

All of these enterprises and commercial developments have gone through difficult times. Some have prospered by having a vision of what could be. Yet others absorbed information, established what was lacking in competitors activities, noted what the public wanted and resolved to give it to them. Of course there is much more, but you get the general priniple.

It might be said that marketers seek to capitalise on three primary human "motivators" need, greed, and vanity. These can be subtly intertwined. Need may be basic and fundamental, for security, food and shelter. Once this requirement is met many decide they want more. This is fine when sought for valid reasons, like improving the quality of life, however when vanity takes hold, it can give rise to deceit, greed and unbecoming behaviour which can adversly impact the whole operation.

There are those who like to "dismiss all that personal development and psychological stuff". Yet these paraphrased requirements identified by a famous psychologist, (physiological- food and oxygen, safety and security, affection/belonging, need for self esteem and that ultimate balanced state, at peace with the world) do apply in various forms to us all.

So what do most of us need to be better more effective people, which might be meaningfully linked to some moneymaking enterprise?

How about this?

We need to be natural, be ourselves, authentic and better at making choices. We must be able to set aside where necessary, conditioning of home, family or our environment. We need to understand ourselves better and the various challenges life can produce. We need to accept others with their limitations and acknowledge our own. Finally we need to appreciate the differences between minor irritations and real problems

As I have noted there can be advantages for the early bird, but does this principle apply to the home business market or more specifically, to home based internet market moneymaking options?

It is undeniable that millions of people worldwide are turning to the internet looking for ways to help them through difficult economic times. Business closures, downsizing, reduced public spending, and many associated factors have boosted this work-from home and part time business market. Are there things you should be aware of, considerations you should bear in mind while embarking on your quest?

Obviously not all businesses are legitimate and you can visit forums and other internet meeting places to share views and avoid some of the more serious traps for the unwary. Some internet postings however should be approached with a degree of caution. Disgruntled members or malicious individuals can make postings which do not reflect the reality experienced by most participants, but at worst they do help to keep you focused. Where there are a plethora of these, it is usually prudent to commit your energies to another enterprise!

I have often been asked the question what should I look for in an internet based home business? So many factors can come into play that simple answers will not suffice. However a short answer might go something like this. Don't spend more than you can afford, allow yourself a little longer than the promotional material suggests is necessary, don't be totally dependant on others for your success and aim to be progressively more knowledgeable in significant areas (of business and life) as your business develops.

You must be comfortable with the business you choose to join and develop. This may seem elementary and obvious, but in my experience all too many are blinded by the income potential presented and work hard to overcome any reservations. I understand the serious pressure many people are wrestling with, perhaps forcing them to make decisions that give rise to a feeling of discomfort or unease.

You must genuinely be convinced the business has a long term future. The mind works in little understood ways and if you do not believe in what you are doing this tends to be demonstrated by reduced input, poor focus and much more, which aggregate to produce disappointing results.

You must not be too dependent on the efforts of others. For this reason alone (and there are more) I am not a huge fan of the pyramid type business structure, where you potentially can benefit from the efforts of others many "levels" deep. Yet I understand the supporting argument that virtually all business is built on a pyramid like structure. Yes I know that when it works there can be rich pickings for a few at the top. But will you be at the top? This is a complex area and I may revisit it one day.

To pull this all together. If you need more money there is overwhelming choice available. If you make effort once and subsequently get paid over and over again this is advantageous. If you become more effective at what you do this implies experience and training which can be gained in several ways.

If you join an enterprise early and know how, you may capitalise on this advantage. There are many excellent opportunities to enhance your lifestyle out there, so keep searching critically and prosper.
