Dodger Stadium, A Historic Baseball Venue

By:

The renowned Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles is well-known to every baseball fan as the home ground of the Major League Baseball team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. It has functioned in this role since 1962. The magnificent stadium was built between 1959 and 1962 for a price tag of $23 million, a huge sum at the time. Having been constructed prior to the advent of multi-purpose stadia in modern times, Dodger Stadium was one of the final arenas built solely for the game of baseball. The arena is noted for its elegant simplicity of design, and remains one of the most highly esteemed ballparks even today.
The ballpark has the distinction of being the largest baseball venue in terms of seating capacity. It is also the third oldest stadium still functioning in Major League Baseball, after Bostons Fenway Park and Chicagos Wrigley Field. The arena has hosted numerous games of note, including several World Series.
The stadium is located in Chavez Ravine, a Los Angeles suburb. The arena provides scenic views of downtown Los Angeles to the south, Elysian Parks verdant green hills to the north and east and from the outfield pavilions, the picturesque San Gabriel Mountains. Because of Southern Californias dry summers a delightful climate ideal for the sport prevails.
The story of the parks history goes back to the 1950s when Walter OMalley, team president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, desired to construct a stadium in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City but was unable to come to a conclusive agreement with city authorities. Therefore OMalley was compelled to look elsewhere and in the course of time came to an agreement with the authorities of Los Angeles in the state of California.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the successful Major League outfits over the years. Formerly known as the Brooklyn Dodgers, the team captured its maiden World Series crown in 1955. Notably the team was the first Major League outfit to feature an African-American player, Jackie Robinson.
The traveler seeking hotels near Dodger Stadium will be delighted by the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles. One of the premier luxury Los Angeles hotels , this fine establishment provides accommodations of an exceptional standard.
