Doctors Advice On The Web

Doctors Advice On The Web

By:

After college, medical school years in medical school and working in a hospital as an intern and then eventually as a resident, it is no mystery doctors are skeptical of the general publics use of the web for medical advice. On top of lacking a degree nor formal education, it is a known fact that anyone can put anything they want on the internet. Many people, even though theyre totally aware of this, are more comfortable taking advice from nameless, faceless and maybe education-less people on the web than they are getting to their medical pro and scheduling an appointment to discuss a potential health problem.

While the internet is useful when it comes to finding answers to a pretty negligible question or researching a paper for class, it isnt smart enough to give you adequate medical info. While there are a number of reputable and intelligent sites with health advice out there, many people are not aware of the differences between good advice written by a doctor or another health professional and information provided by an amateur.

In addition to not finding good medical advice on the internet, its always better to see your own doctor when you are not sure about something since many illnesses and diseases could be mistaken for another, which means you might easily make a mistake deciding what you have. Your main doctor, on the other hand, will run lab and blood tests allowing him distinguish between the different illnesses and conditions that display similar signs.

For instance, one mom might spot strange bumps underneath her childs skin with marks and cuts on the bumps. She decides to Google an internet search for their causes and symptoms. Of the endless search results that show up, she might or might not perfectly go through the results. Pictures show her that the bruises and scabs on her sons body are the same to some condition that displays up in the results. She she decides her child has spider bites and uses the symptoms she found online to give her son a diagnosis and provide at home medical treatment. When her sons illness doesnt subside, she finally decides to take her child to the professional and learns her child has an infection .

Here is an example of a reason why even optimized web-based searches would never stand in for health professionals. Even if they might help a person making a determination about what they might have and which medications are best to take, it should not be used in place of a doctor. Health information must be gotten from a medical pro with a relevant education - not an online search engine anyone can manipulate.
