You have made the decision to replace your old windows, and now comes the work of actually doing it. Like anything else, window replacement installation becomes a less daunting task if you break it down into small steps.

1. Choose the type and style of windows you want. You will need to consider frame material, glass U-value and coating, and how the windows open. Shop for quality, price, and warranty.
2. Next you must measure all your windows to get the right replacement windows. Standard sizes can be ordered from stock. If you need custom sizes, allow extra time. Measure each window twice, and then have someone else verify your measurements. You want to make absolutely sure you order the right sizes.
3. Order your windows after getting at least three estimates.
4. When your new windows arrive, read the manufacturer's instructions carefully before starting. If they are not clear, call or write for clarification. You might also do an internet keyword search on window replacement installation for additional hints and tips.
5. Work on one window at a time. Remove the old window, including trim, nails, and caulking. Thoroughly clean the window opening so that the new window can slide into place without being scratched or damaged.

7. Make sure the window operates correctly, and that it opens and closes freely.
8. Complete the installation by installing the outside trim and sealing the window with caulking and/or flashing according to the manufacturer's instructions.
