Do You Want To Be A Wedding Planner?

By:

Have you ever thought of becoming a wedding planner? You would have to be a person who loves weddings, details, anxious people, people in general and have great vision. Do you understand wedding etiquette? Can get along with vendors and service people? If you answered yes, this may be a career path for you!

Wedding etiquette is everything from the "yes" to the "I do". Lets start with an engagement party. When is it appropriate? If their wedding is a year away you might wonder when is the right time to invite family and friends and announce the happy news. Traditionally the bride's parents host the party. The guest should be surprised by the announcement of the engagement and the big date. If future in-laws request a similar party for their friends and families, they should be thank and encouraged to hold a party whenever suits them.

Mom's meeting moms for the first time can be a stressful event. A phone call is a great icebreaker followed by a sit down conversation whenever it is first convenient. Friendship should be the guide and both sets of parents should try to stay in touch as much as possible. Maybe a barbeque or a brunch at a restaurant, whatever feels the most appropriate? This can be hosted by either set of parents.

Invitation do's and don'ts. First, allow plenty of time, get organized and have a system for addressing and mailing the invitations. Get the addresses of everyone on the list. There is nothing wrong with asking for help from bridal attendants or family. Don't include gift registries with the invitations. It is in poor taste to ask for gifts when inviting guest to a ceremony. Don't address envelopes with labels; they should be hand addressed.

Bridesmaid dresses are tricky. It is hard to find a dress that looks good on several body types. Bridesmaid's dresses don't have to match exactly. A good idea may be to give the bridesmaid general guidelines for style, degree of formality, fabric, color, length and let them choose their own dress.

Event space in NYC may prove the trickiest. Make sure you choose a place with the bride and groom where it is accessible to guest, indoor/outdoor facilities, beautiful views, and in-house catering.

These are just a few of the many wedding details you may be involved in as a wedding planner. If this sounds fun to you, get certified and find yourself a lucky bride and groom to make their day perfect.
