Do You Use Your Credit Card Correctly?

By:

If they are used properly, credit cards can save people money, while creating opportunities. A lot of people believe that any credit which can be obtained is a good thing. This is not the case. Anyone who needs proof of this only needs to look at the national debt of many countries. Money which is borrowed is not free. Often people find that it is too costly to repay. Many people will struggle throughout their lives, with ongoing debt. Some may not concern themselves with the debt, and continue to increase it.

People who refuse to pay outstanding debt, should understand that what is owed does not simply disappear. In the end, it is absorbed by people who make timely payments. Even when debt is forgiven, because of a lack of ability to pay, someone indeed does pay for it. Generally companies will simply increase their fees for everyone in order to recoup a loss. This is definitely not fair, but it certainly is true.

Why would credit be issued to a person with a bad credit rating, aka a reputation for failure to pay what they owe? Why indeed! Companies DO NOT EVER lend money if they do not stand to gain. Otherwise what would be the point? Charity? NO!

The answer is compound interest... Compound interest is great when it is received, and terrible when it is charged. Even a charge of just a couple hundred dollars can quickly become unmanageable for many people. Certainly most people have the ability to repay a couple hundred dollars. However, high interest rates cause this amount to grow unimaginably.

Unfortunately some people do not stop to think about how much money they will be paying back in interest. The person who spends hundreds of dollars using a credit card will almost always find themselves paying back thousands. People who buy things on sale with a credit card are not actually getting a bargain if the card is paid through a scheduled repayment plan.

People who use a credit card in the proper manner will certainly be creating a better future for themselves. These individuals will increase their opportunity to borrow in the future. They will be able to purchase new cars, nice homes, and even be approved for large loan such as may be needed to start a business.

Using a credit card, should be reserved for purchasing items that are necessary. They should be considered the same as a person's checking account. In other words, they must always be paid in full at the end of each month.

Interest rates are very important. People should always choose the lowest ones which are available to them. Companies which charge an application fee, or monthly charges even with no balance should be avoided. In fact, there are many available, which will give bonuses to individuals who do not carry a balance. People may even find these bonuses doubled. There is no question that the proper use of credit cards will allow people opportunities and save them money.
