Do You Take Your Dog To The Doctor Regularly?

By:

Dogs are considered man's best friend and some consider their dog a part of their family. Don't you usually nudge your family and friends to seek good medical care? Don't you do that out of care and concern, only wanting the best for them?

The same goes for your dog. They deserve adequate medical care just as much as your friends and family do. Many dog owners only think of taking their dog to the vet if the dog is hurt or is feeling sick.

Scheduled routine check ups are important as well. In fact, some very expensive appointments could have been less costly if the dog had been seen more regularly.

This is why it is so important for your dog to receive routine preventive care.

Shots. Dogs are in need of yearly shots to remain healthy. Their shots can prevent many diseases and can prolong their life span, so they can be around for a long time to come. If a dog is left unvaccinated, then he can easily contract diseases, which can be costly to you in the end in order to try to treat them. Your dog needs to be checked for ear mites. Ear mites are common with dogs. Regular vet check ups can prevent and cure this type of infestations. The vet is able to assess the severity of the infestation and can prescribe medication to take care of it. Untreated ear mites can continue growing in the tissues until they get to the dog's brain, causing death.

Fleas and Ticks. Most dogs have problems with fleas and ticks. They should be treated as soon as either of these parasites are seen. Also in this case, the vet can assess the severity of the infestation, and suggest the right treatment.

Your dogs might have worms. Worms are not uncommon with dogs, but there are so many of them that you really need a vet to assess which type of worm is bothering your dog, and decide the treatment necessary.

Dental Health. A vet can clean the dog's teeth, or show you how to do it yourself. It's important for the vet to check the dog's teeth to prevent bacteria from growing and getting out of hand.

Bacteria can cause all sorts of ailments for a dog, so keep on top of your dog's dental health and prevent any costly treatments that you could incur if their dental needs are left unchecked.

You should see your dog's health as important as that of any other family member. It's better to prevent than treat, so make sure your dog is getting the preventive care it deserves.

A vet is able to detect many different problems, sometimes even before the problems manifest. Your dog could live to a ripe, old age with the proper care and the watchful eye of his veterinarian.
