If you are applying for a supervisor or upper management position you will need to stress the leadership abilities and experience that you have. You will need to tell them about your excellent communication skills and your ability track production and manage people. For a more entry level position you should talk about your abilities that pertain to that certain job type.

Your cover letter acts as your first chance to make the employer want to hear more about you as an employee. You need to make it stand out and make it interesting to the hiring team so you are sure to get a call for an interview.

If you are applying for a clerical position and your resume talks about how much experience you have in a warehouse setting, it will not showcase your abilities in the clerical area. A general cover letter is intended to showcase your strengths. However, the strengths that are most interesting to an employer will vary depending on the position you are applying for.

If you have specific people that you would like to list as references that have influence in the field that you are applying for then you may want to tweak your cover letter so you can drop their names. Having influential friends or associates can really work well towards getting hired on. The same is true if you know someone that is currently working for the company. If you can have them speak on your behalf by mentioning their names in the cover letter you may find it easier to get hired.

Use terminology that applies to the field that you are applying for a position in. When you use terminology that is familiar to the person or persons that are reviewing your resume you will grab their attention and get them to take notice. They will know then that you are serious about the position and that you have the skills that are necessary to do a great job for their company.

You can do this by having a well prepared, grammatically correct, resume and cover letter. When you gear your cover letter towards the employer that you have always dreamed of working for, they will surely take more interest in you as an employee and you will find that you will be there for an interview in a short amount of time.
