Do You Need Help Pet Grieving?

By:

My heart breaks every day for the recent losses I have experienced. Now, I know to some this may seem silly, but to many of us our animals are part of our family. I love my animals like they are my children. Grieving a loss is a difficult process, whether it is our previous animal or a beloved friend or family member. Either way, it profoundly affects us.

As of June 2009, I had two dogs and four cats. As of September 2009 I was left only with two dogs. All four of my cats went up to cat heaven, leaving myself and my dogs in mourning. When I wake up in the morning, I still reach out to cuddly with my precious babies and wait to hear them purring and it always takes me a second to realize that they are no longer with me. I feel a great sadness every day.

My beautiful Princess was a 17 year old calicle cat who had been part of my life since I was ten years old. I barely remember life before her! Muffin, was a 12 year old calicle cat who was Princesss grand-daughter. Bindy was only two years old but so a beautiful grey cat with green eyes who had a friendly and charismatic character. And last but not least, Groucho. He was the ugliest cat I ever saw, but was a stray who chose to be part of my family and moved and fit right in only in October of 2008.

It first started with Princess: She dies of old age while cuddling with Muffin in my bed. Then Muffin developed a blood clot in her back and had to be put down. Groucho then died of a an unknown disease and lastly beautiful Bindy was hit by a car and taken from me suddenly. At night, my two dogs lay in sorrow as their cuddle buddies are no longer here for them to cuddle and sleep with.

My family held funerals and now have a cat graveyard at the back of our property with tombstones for each cat we have lost. My oldest dog, Buffy, is 14 years old and I cant imagine the emptiness I am going to feel when she leaves me. The thought of losing her tears me apart every day.

I am still going through the steps of grief and need help to get through these losses that I have experienced. No matter what we are grieving, it is a great pain and emptiness that we feel. It is a process that takes time and no one should be ashamed to feel their sorrow and ask for help. Take the time to grieve properly, before you try and move on with the rest of your life!
