And now they can be made of deer skin,sheep skin,snake skin,calf skin,etc.Any leather that is soft can be used.

U.G.G. boots,made of soft sheep skin,are also referred to as Moccasin.However,there is no common sense as to mention which one as moccasin and which one not.But if you use the word,no one will laugh at you.
However,the first official reference to Moccasin was by U.G.G. Australia for the model of Dakota.This is a very soft pair of shoes made of Merino sheep skin.
