Do You Know The Three Common Causes Of Pain In The Ass?

By:

The three commonest diseases of the anal region are: Hemorrhoids (most common), Anal Fissure, and Anal Fistula.

If you are experiencing pain, itching or burning sensation symptoms in your anal region it is most likely that you have one of these three diseases. This article will look at each of these diseases to understand them better and to know their characteristic features so that you would be able to differentiate them from one another.

Out of these three diseases, hemorrhoids are the commonest followed by anal fissure then followed by anal fistula.

Anal Fistula

-Anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel between the lower rectum and the skin around the anus.

-This abnormal tunnel usually causes discharge of secretions or pus through its peri-anal opening, this is usually associated with itching of the peri-anal area(the area of skin around the anus).

-If this fistula gets infected, there is associated pain in the anal region.

-Treatment is usually by an operation called fistulectomy.

Anal Fissure

-An anal fissure is a tear of the inner lining of the lower rectum

-It is associated with constipation due to fecal impaction which is caused by conscious delay of the urge to defecate so as to avoid pain.

-It is characterized by an acute sharp pain during defecation which lasts for some hours after defecation but ultimately stops abruptly after some time.

-The victim does not experience pain at all in between bouts of defecation.

-It is not associated with itching.

-It is usually treated conservatively with the use of glyceryl trinitrate ointment and laxatives to relax the sphincter muscles and soften feces.

Hemorrhoids

-This disease is the commonest cause of anal symptoms.

-It is caused by over distention and inflammation of the veins of the ano-rectal region.

-Internal hemorrhoids can not be seen, they usually present with painless rectal bleeding during defecation.

-Prolapsed internal hemorrhoids pop out of the anus and they have a reddish pink coloration. These prolapsed piles look like tiny grapes protruding out of the anus.

-External hemorrhoids arise from the skin around the anus and they look like skin colored lumps around the anus.

-When hemorrhoids get complicated by the formation of blood clots to form thrombosed hemorrhoids they are usually purplish blue or dark red in color.

-Piles vary in size, most piles are not bigger than the size of a pea while others can be as big as grapes.

-They could be solitary or they could be multiple.

-They can cause pain, burning sensation and discomfort around the anal opening.

-Mucus discharge which causes staining of their underwear is usually associated with irritation of the anal region and it causes itching of the anal area.

-Internal piles can also be associated with a false feeling of incomplete evacuation of the bowel, you feel the false urge to move your bowels even though your bowels are empty.

If you are experiencing pain or other symptoms of anal diseases you should always consider the possibility of having these three diseases first before thinking about other diseases of the anal and rectal area.
