There are many different things that you are allowed to hunt in Ohio, so hunting regulations in this state get really definite. First of all, you have to have a license to hunt anything & you must hunt within the specified hunting seasons, and secondly, you must know about the limitations for each animal, so here are a few basics to get you started on your hunting endeavors:

Deer hunting
Deer hunting is frequent around the country, so this one is a biggie for many. You will be able to get a license for deer hunting for a full season, for all deer for $24.00. If youre only going to be hunting antlerless deer, you can get a limited use permit for $15.00.

Deer hunting season ranges based on what you will be hunting with. For example, if youre archery hunting, the regulations for hunting in Ohio state that you can hunt from September 24th through February fifht. This is only for white tail deer.

You also need to know that there is a muzzleloader early white tailed deer season. You wont need a controlled hunt permit or application for the areas of Salt Fork Wildlife Area, Wildcat Hollow, or Shawnee State Forest. This season is short. It starts on October 17th and goes until October twenty-second.

In the areas listed above, white tail gun & muzzleloader seasons are: November twenty-eighth to December 4 for guns and January 7th through January tenth. State wide dates for both guns & muzzleloaders are as follows: December seventeenth to December 18 for guns and January 7th through January 10th.

Small Game
According to the Ohio hunting regulations, you're required to have a permit to hunt small game such as rabbits & squirrels & your daily bag limit is 4 rabbits & six squirrels. However, you must pay attention to rabbit hunting restrictions & the dates that it is open to hunt.

For pheasants, quail & doves, you will have to have a hunting permit as well. The daily bag limits are 2 cocks for pheasants, 4 quail and doves have specific regulations, so you will need to check into it according to where you live.

Other small game including fox, raccoon, skunk, weasel, crow, coyote & wild boar can be hunted year round, but if you are hunting for these during the deer hunting seasons, the Ohio hunting regulations state that you have to observe the deer hunting laws. There is no bag limit on any of these animals except for grouse, which is 2 .

Turkey hunting
When it comes to hunting wild turkeys, you have 2 opportunities, in the spring & the fall, but there are Ohio hunting regulations that you need to follow. For example, there are specific laws that determine when you can hunt these animals, such as if a turkey is in a tree, it is unlawful to kill it. You will have to get a seasonal hunting permit for hunting wild turkeys & you are only allowed to kill one per season.

Hunting can be a good way to get your food, help to control animal populations & is a great sport, but you have to follow the Ohio hunting regulations so that you can guarantee that you have a harmless, fun and legal time.
