Do You Know The Complications Of Emergency Thrombosed Hemorrhoid Surgery?

By:

Excessive congestion of hemorrhoid veins can lead to the formation of blood clots causing acutely painful thrombosed hemorrhoids. This condition is characterized by the formation of bluish purple and dark colored severely painful anal swellings.

Emergency surgical removal of thrombosed hemorrhoids in the emergency room is one of the ways to obtain fast hemorrhoid relief of the severely painful and distressful symptoms of this condition.

However just like other types of surgical treatments, this emergency surgery of thrombosed piles has its own potential complications like:

1-Hemorrhage

The most common complication of this surgery is excessive blood loss. Bleeding can however be controlled via different ways which include:

a] By applying direct pressure on the bleeding blood vessels till the bleeding stops.

b] Cauterization of the bleeding blood vessels using silver nitrate.

c] The bleeding blood vessels can be tied with a figure-of-eight stitch. Absorbable sutures are used for the stitching.

2-Infection

There is a slight risk of infection, it is however not often necessary to give antibiotics to the victim before the operation is commenced.

3-Skin tag

The margin of the anal orifice can be disfigured by the formation of redundant peri-anal skin after the incised skin has healed.

4-Anal stricture

Tightening of the anus could ensue if care if extra care is not taken to avoid the external anal sphincter muscle during the removal of the thrombosed hemorrhoid veins.

5-Incontinence of feces

The patient might find it hard to control the urge to defecate before he or she gets to the toilet once he or she is pressed, this is because the external anal sphincter could be damaged during the surgery if the necessary precautions are not taken.

6-Pain

The surgery might lead to the development of further pain. To avoid this, local and intravenous anesthetic agents can be applied to reduce the pain.

As good as this type of surgery is for the treatment of severely painful thrombosed piles, the possibility of these complications means that you should try the use of a simpler treatment approach as your first line of treatment.

So how can you treat painful hemorrhoids without surgery?
