Do You Have Waterlogged Paperwork You Need To Save

By:

In the past when there was a home or business that got flooded for whatever reason, there was not a whole lot that could be done to salvage and restore some things. One of these things that could be severely damaged by water is paperwork. Paper items of any kind were often just thrown in the trash because there was no hope for them to be restored. People would just gather it all up and put in the the garbage even if the paperwork was important to them.

Today there are many document drying companies that can help you to be able to keep paperwork, documents, photographs, and even media items that are used with electronics. Any of these items can be used to keep valuable information or priceless things like family photographs. Some places of business still keep plenty of hard copies of invoices, receipts, contracts, etc. Hard copy means a paper back up copy just in case information on their computer or CD Rom is lost. Sometimes even records like microfilm, X rays, and blueprints can get damaged and these records can be vital to a business too.

Then there are other paper items like wet books, paintings, prints, journals, record books, and any other such items that can be damaged when exposed to water. Document drying companies can come into a home or business that has had a flood or perhaps when the sprinkler system went off because of a fire or malfunction. They can gather up all of these types of items and when possible, take them to their drying and restoration facility. There are several different methods of restoration and drying they can use for individual items. Some things can be dried more quickly than others. Some things will have to have restoration techniques used in order to get them as close to their original state as possible.

When paper items have been wet, there is always the possibility of disintegration and mold. When paper stays wet too long, it will simply start to dissolve. If the paper is just damp, mold can set in within a couple of days if it is not rescued and the drying process begun. In some instances the document drying company will not be able to remove all of the wet materials, such as with a big business that might have a huge room full of records or in the case of a flooded library. Sometimes they can leave the items in the building and bring in the equipment that is needed to dry the items.

If you ever have a situation where you need to save a large amount or even a small amount of paper items or electronic media, you will have to contact a document drying company quickly, The sooner they can get to the items, the better chance they will have of saving and restoring them. Check with your insurance company to see if the cost will be covered by under your policy. In some instances of flooding it might not be, but if the flood or water came from inside your home or building, you could be covered.
