Do You Have Minor Smoke Damage In Your Home

Have you recently had a fire in your home that caused some damage but, it was not enough to turn in on your insurance because the deductible was as much as the repair to have it fixed. There are a lot of situations where you can have smoke damage. The majority of these are going to be in kitchen, such as leaving a pan of grease on the stove or setting a pot holder to close to an burner.

If this applies to your situation, you might just want to tackle this one on your own. If you have a small fire in the kitchen and do not have any wall or ceiling damage. This is about as easy to repair this on your own as it would be to have a company come in and clean the smoke damaged areas or maybe even repaint. When you have smoke damage this minor, all you need is a little common sense to clean the smoke residue.

In most cases it might look worse than it really is if this was a fire you have had in your kitchen but, was quickly put out. By simply using some old towels and a fairly stout cleaning product that you probably already have in your home you can clean the area that has the smoke damage to it in some cases this might be all that is needed. If this does not do the trick, some priming of the area that was damaged may require some basic water based stain blocker. This should get rid of the stain and a simple coat of paint will take care of this accident in your kitchen.

This is no doubt the best situation we could hope for if we have a small fire on the stove because for the most part this type of stove fire will not cause any major damage to your home except for just a little smoke damage. So if there are not a lot of flames and just some smokes burns to the walls or ceilings, there is nothing to be afraid of in trying to clean and repair it. Just remember that if it is an actual fire that burns into walls or ceiling, it will more than likely have caused damage that will probably require a professional company that is certified in water and fire damage, so you might end up needing your insurance company after all.
