Do You Ever Ask What Does Heartburn Feel Like?

By:

You might well wonder "What does heartburn feel like," when you come home after a busy day, and plop down on the sofa. You've already had your regular dinner of a chili dog, cheese fries, and a root beer in the car on the freeway on the way home. You get this burning pain in your gut with the irresistible urge to belch. After chomping down some Tums, you let loose with a really big burp. Acid reflux strikes again.

Some people mistake heartburn for a coronary. Granted they're both painful, but the painful sensation is inherently different. While there is typically a biting, stinging pain accompanied by an urge to burp with acid reflux, heart attacks feel like a heavy pressure instead. It becomes like a vise, making it hard to breathe and possibly making the person pass out. The pain doesn't just center on the chest but can radiate out to the arms, neck, or even jaw.

When people start to feel chest pains, they should immediately talk to a doctor. They should never be ashamed to ask the question of 'what does heartburn feel like?' Once you ask that scary question doctors are only willing enough to hope for heartburn rather than a heart problem. To make sure that the heart is in healthy condition, the doctor will usually ask all sorts of questions like diet and lifestyle as both can affect the heart as well as cause heartburn. Then doctors would usually run a gamut of tests to makes sure everything is healthy, like taking the blood pressure, blood tests and an EKG.

Once the EKG gives you a clean bill of health, the doctor could zero in on heartburn as the main cause for your pains. Now that your question as to what does heartburn feel like is answered, you may very gladly accept all the doctor's suggestions for you. Some medications like antacids and proton pump inhibitors may be prescribed but the main bulk of the suggestions would require a change in lifestyle, like cutting down, or out, on caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes, and switching to a low-fat, low-acid diet.

It is surprising sometimes when children all of a sudden ask the question of 'what does heartburn feel like.' Apparently, not only adults are victimized with the heartburn symptoms but also children just go to show that we really have to do something about our modern diet. True, heartburn and heart attacks have been happening since the dawn of history, and yet history will show us that those who did have them were not really that conscious of healthy foods either.

What about children? Should they, of all people, be asking "What does heartburn feel like?" There are incidents of 'child stress' because children love to emulate their elders. So, late nights on the computer compounded with a staple diet of spice, oily pizza, fatty burgers and fries, and the ubiquitous super-sized glass of soda allow the child to feel all the 'joys of adult living.' So, if you have to ask "What does heartburn feel like," then take that as a warning sign that you must change your diet, tweak your lifestyle, and get yourself on the road towards better health.
