Let me set the scenario for you so that you understand what I am talking about. A potential customer searches on the internet for something like, "Dallas Dentist", or "Baltimore auto mechanic". Who comes up at the top of the search engines for those searches? Is it you? If it is not, then how much business do you suppose you are losing out on?

Many brick and mortar business do not understand the importance of local search marketing. However, the fact is that more and more people are doing their research online before deciding where to purchase goods or services. If you are not at the top of the results for those local searches, then you are missing out on some business that could be coming your way.
So, need some solutions on how to come up higher in the search engines for those local searches?

There are many things that you can do, but let me explain just a few here that can get you started. If you have an internet marketing company that is doing your online marketing for you, make sure that they are making efforts in the local search internet marketing arena.
One thing that you can do to help your rankings for local searches is to make sure that you have the geo qualifiers in your page titles and meta descriptions. Remember that the title is what shows up in search results and often the meta description will as well. If you have the appropriate geo describing term in those locations, you will be more likely to show up higher in search results for keywords in which that geo term is used in the search.

Another thing that you can do is to make sure that you make some efforts in your link campaigns to link with the anchor text containing that geo qualifier in your keyword phrase. Get links from other local based websites, particularly if they are in your industry. Also make sure that you have an internal link structure that takes advantage of using a geo qualifier. The city, state, etc in the footer is also a must.

Finally, make sure that you make some efforts to submit your site to locally based directories. You can also become involved in local online forums and participate in the discussion as well as living a link to your site in the signature of each post.
