Do Wrinkly Wrappers Damage Cigars?

By:

The wrapper of your cigar is part of what holds the entire thing together. A wrinkled wrapper might just be cause for concern but it's definitely not the end of your cigar. How do you know if that cigar is worth smoking, before choosing the right option from your selection of cigar cutter lighters? Does a wrinkly wrapper spell doom for your cigar? Is there any way to salvage the stogie and ensure that you are able to enjoy it to the utmost? Actually, a wrinkled wrapper might not be a bad thing. However, it depends on where the wrinkles are on the wrapper and how severe they are.

For instance, if your cigar is wrinkled on the cap, you are probably safe to break out any of your cigar cutter lighters and cut the cap of it. When you do this, inspect the area to ensure that part of the cap remains to secure the wrapper. If the rest of the cap begins to come off, chances are good that your cigar will begin unraveling and will be unusable. However, if the majority of the cap remains in place, you can likely enjoy it without any problem at all.

If the wrinkles are at the foot of the cigar, you might have a better time of it than with other locations on the body. For instance, if the end is wrinkled, you can use your choice of cigar cutter lighters to remove the offending bit, without sacrificing too much of the filler. However, take great care during this portion, as it is possible to pull extra filling out, if you are inexperienced using a cigar guillotine cutter. When cutting, use the same motions you would for the cap, making sure to apply a fast, firm cut, directly through the cigar's foot.

Finally, a wrinkly wrapper on the body of the cigar can be a very bad sign. This is usually because the cigar has been dropped, pinched, crushed or incurred some other form of damage. Before opting to use any cigar cutter lighters to cut the tip, inspect the wrinkled area and determine if the wrapper is only wrinkled, or if it is torn. In some cases, wrinkles will pose no problem, but they can hide tears in the wrapper that can lead to a lackluster smoke and ruin an otherwise pleasant event. Therefore, wrinkles need not be terrible, but inspect before you smoke.
