Do We Buy On Price Or Value?

By:

Are customers motivated to buy based on price, or on value? Many small businesses believe they need to either match or have the lowest price on their product in order to get sales. You may be motivated to purchase the cheapest priced product for things you are not particularly concerned about lets say garbage bags and ear cleaners. But when it comes to things of more value to you, price is only one consideration, and a lower price will not necessarily ensure your purchase.

Imagine choosing a college to attend for your education, solely based on tuition. The same logic holds true for online products such as ebooks. If you are surfing for the best how-to book on real estate investments, for example, would you settle for a lesser product to save a couple bucks? Of course not, because you want the best information, the best value for your dollar.

The perception of value that your product exhibits is of paramount importance. Most people at least occasionally purchase designer products, generic products that have been up-scaled, at least in their packaging. A comparison of ingredients will often show the designer product is identical to the generic one. Why do we buy them? We buy then because they look better. It feels good to have them. It is even argued that good design has an ennobling effect on its owner.

We know that consumers purchase things on the perception of value over price. Your products look needs to be consistent, from the ebook cover and header, right through the purchase process. And your product graphics need to fit the subject with appropriate use of text, imagery, and colors.

There is a tendency among designers to out-shout the competition by using the largest, boldest type and the brightest colors. I hope you dont make this mistake. Make sure your graphics support your subject in a clear, convincing, professional way. Smart designs communicate immediately, and with taste and confidence. They dont have to knock you over with monster truck sized type on an electric pink background. Just as we dont tend to respond favorably to pushy sales people, make sure your product graphics dont come off that way.

Getting stunning, professional graphics for your products is the easy part, and is fast as well as affordable. So put the right price on your product, and make sure you back it up with convincing, value added professional graphics.
