Do Real Estate Agents Need A Course In Ethics?

By:

Nowadays you find out about all kinds of codes of conduct and codes of ethics being broken in all aspects of business and business services. But as of late I have been seeing some really horrible affairs being done by Real Estate Agents and Agencies.

It seems like everyone is getting ripped off either money wise or otherwise. They are being lied to in a distasteful manner (not that lying is ever tasteful) and they are having things kept from them that really shouldn't be.

In most cases the Agencies say it's the potential buyer or sellers problem that certain things happened. They weren't careful enough or they didn't study up on the laws, etc. Frankly I think an Agency and an Agent is someone you hire on to HELP you not hurt you.

These are people that are supposed to help you get through this part of your life. Whether you are selling a home or buying a home, their best interest, should be you. And your best interest is to either sell the house at a good price or buy a house at a good price.

The last thing you would suspect is to have the wool pulled over your eyes. But that is just what some of these "trusted" agencies are doing. I heard some really nasty stuff on a few of the forums and websites I visit sometimes.

Agents not mentioning specific repairs needing done, or hiring an inspector that they might know who is willing to lie to you about things that need done to the house, or agencies and agents taking too much of a commission. It goes on and on.

When are these people going to start taking responsibility for what we hire them for and start realizing that as a service provider they need to start being a little more ethic in the things they choose to do.

Being ethic isn't even about following laws and guidelines. It's about being a better person, being honest when honesty is called for and being outright about things. It's about honor and integrity to do the right thing.

I know that sounds a little "boy scout-y" to some people but when you are in a position such as an agent or agency it is absolutely essential that they are full of honesty and integrity. Its like trusting a nanny to watch your kids, or leaving your car with your auto mechanic. These are people you are supposed to be able to trust not the other way around!
