Do More Swimming This Summer

By:

Swimming is a great way to exercise and it also has many health benefits for people of all ages. As an exercise, swimming is a great workout for your heart and lungs while it is generally easier on your body than other types or exercises such as running. You can still get your heart rate up and you lungs breathing deeply in just a short period of time. This all happens while the rest of your body is working hard, but without the same added stress or pressure of other activities.

The water also has a great cooling effect on your body so you probably won't be sweating as hard as you would be if you were running on land. As people grow older, moving around to get exercise can become quite difficult. Lately, there have been an increased number of water fitness programs for the elderly across the country. The water naturally causes you to move slower as you walk which makes it much easier on your joints even than walking on land. Water aerobics aren't just for the elderly or for synchronized swimmers.

It is a great activity for everyone, especially those individuals who are in rehabilitation after an injury or expectant mothers. If you are interested, check into getting some water aerobics gear and taking a class and a local swimming pool.

Now the most important thing to remember about being around water is that you know your limitations. Make sure you know how to swim well enough for where you are. If you don't know how to swim very well, make sure you take a class to improve your skills before you go into deeper waters. Until then, stay in the shallow end. There are also classes for little children to teach them how to swim at a young age. Most children are ready to start learning to swim around 4 or 5 years of age however, you should always take precautions when having your children around water.

Make sure you are with them even if they have been picking up swimming like a fish. Accidents can happen anytime and it is better to always leave children around a supervising adult when they are in the water.
Swimming is also just a fun activity to do with family or friends. What is a better way to cool down in the summer other than spending an afternoon lounging in a pool? Have some fun this summer and visit the pool more often.
