Do It Yourself Home Building Kits

If you have ever wanted to build a home for yourself but the task seems overwhelming, you might want to consider one of the many home building kits that are available today.

By doing much of the work yourself, a home building kit may be one of the least expensive ways to have your own home. You will instantly have equity in your home. That equity is called sweat equity.

A home building kit will not include everything you need to complete your home. You will need to have plumbing, electrical and cement work done. If you choose a cement slab for the floor it will need to be in place before you start building your home.

You will probably have included in your kit enough materials to "dry in" the home. This means that you will have siding, roofing and framing materials. These will be precut, so you follow directions and nail together to build the outside of your home. You should also have any studs required for interior walls. Doors and windows also should be included in the kit.

If you purchase the "dry in" kit, there is much more that you will have to buy much more to complete you home. You will need the materials to finish all interior walls, plumbing, electrical and mechanical units. You will also need to buy cabinets and may need to buy interior doors.

Before you decide which home building kit you are going to purchase you should ask for an itemized list of materials that are included. Calculate the cost of completing the home including materials and labor for which you will be responsible. A full service lumberyard may be able to help with this. You may also find a gadget online for figuring the cost of building materials that could be helpful.

Be sure that you are well informed before signing any contract.

A home kit may be the perfect answer to your need for a new home. You may also discover that you need to look at other options to find what is right for you.
