Do Genetic Factors Alone Account For Your Height?

Do Genetic Factors Alone Account For Your Height?

By:

For much of history, it was believed that your genes alone determined your height. If you had short parents, short grandparents, etc., there was no way you could be taller. Elements like diet, exercise, nutrition and environment were ignored.

However, all scientific research in the past few decades has pointed to one thing alone: that your height is determined more by external factors than your genes.

This is the reason why average height among South Korean men today is 5'8.5", while those of North Koreans is just 5'4.5", despite the fact that these two countries are separated by a recently erected semi-porous border. The improved standard of life in South Korea, which enables them to eat better, more nutritious food, has increase their average height by upto 4 inches as compared to their across the border neighbors.

Today, the most sure-shot way of increasing your height is to undergo limb-lengthening surgery. This is a slow and painful process that is terribly expensive and confines you to the hospital for upto 6 months without much movement. But at the end, you're guaranteed an increase of anything between 2-6 inches. Be warned though, that such surgery is accompanied by a lot of risks, not to mention that it is very painful for the 6 months or so of its duration.

The best method, however, to improve your height is to follow a dedicated exercise regimen and follow a healthy, nutritious diet, especially if you're under 25 or preferably, below 18 (for males) and still capable of growth. A diet rich in calcium, proteins and minerals can work wonders in helping you grow taller. When your body has all the nutrients required to grow and undergoes regular stress through exercise, more often than not, you'll find that it responds naturally to the stimuli by growing taller.

Moreover, a good exercise and diet regimen will work wonders for your bones in your old age. People who exercise regularly and have good dietary habits are way less likely to suffer from bone diseases like osteoporisis or artheritis.

So eat well, exercise regularly, and you'll find growth coming naturally to you.
