Do Delivery Companies Offer 24-hour Delivery Service?

By:

Bay area courier service providers work virtually nonstop. To some people, it might seem as if these companies are delivering packages twenty four hours a day. This is not necessarily the case. While there are almost always employees working, they are not necessarily working at picking up or dropping off packages. The times in the middle of the night are the times when these companies sort through the packages and then transport them to their destination cities.

Finding a true twenty four hour delivery service is very difficult, especially in smaller cities. Large metropolitan cities that notoriously operate on a twenty four hour basis are much more likely to have courier service companies that operate around the clock. These kinds of services are much more difficult to find in smaller locations.

The late night and early morning hours are when the magic of these delivery companies happens most of the time. The packages all arrive at a central location. They are then sorted and sent to planes or other vehicles that can get the packages to their final destinations. This routine would be made far less efficient if it were to be interrupted by late night pick-ups and deliveries.

That is why delivery companies have cut off times. These times are designed to maximize the company's ability to move a large number of packages. During the delivery times, the company is focused on picking up and dropping off shipments. After the cut off times, the company switches gears and focuses solely on transporting these packages to their destination cities for further processing and delivery.

Some local services do offer around the clock service. They do this in an attempt to compete with the larger companies by filling a needed niche. Providing services not offered by larger firms is a good way for small businesses to grow. Usually, these deliveries are only small emergency shipments. Because of the late hours, these deliveries usually cost more than during regular business hours.

Just because bay area courier service companies are operating around the clock does not mean that they pick up and deliver packages on a twenty four hour basis. These companies have cut off times that allow them to process the packages they have in order to get them delivered on time. Interrupting that processing time with late shipments would slow down the whole process, costing the company money and the customer's valuable time.
