Do Delivery Companies Have Access To Temperature Controlled Warehouses?

By:

Temperature controlled warehouses are an important part of an Atlanta delivery company's business operations. Most packages are sensitive to changes in temperature on one form or another. Everything from electronic devices to perishable food products can be damaged or destroyed if mishandled and stored in an improper environment. Using a temperature controlled warehouse expands a courier company's business opportunities, increasing their revenue. They are more expensive to operate as they use a lot of electrical power, but the increase in revenue more than makes up for the additional operating costs.

If your goods are particularly sensitive to temperature, then you should consider asking to see the warehouse in person. Ask about what systems they have in place to monitor the holding temperatures, and what back up plans they have for when there is a power failure. A warehouse should have a back-up power generator that is capable of producing enough electric power to sustain warehouse temperatures until power service is restored.

There are very few shipments that are not temperature sensitive. Food products are particularly sensitive. Perishable food must be kept at temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. Frozen goods should be kept below 0 degrees to keep the food preserved properly. Medical supplies can be damaged in heat as well. Plastic can melt. And, electronic products and parts can be rendered useless if exposed to extreme temperatures.

Whether a temperature controlled environment is important to you is dependent upon the kind of goods you will be having transported. Some articles can withstand extreme temperatures and can be kept almost anywhere. Delivery companies that do not have cold storage generally offer their services at a discount to the bigger companies with more professionally designed facilities.

Because temperatures in the Southeastern United States can fluctuate so rapidly, it is important for Atlanta delivery companies to have temperature controlled warehouses. Summers in the South can be brutally hot and humid. Outside air temperatures routinely reach above 90 degrees. This means temperatures inside a warehouse without temperatures controls can be downright dangerous. Winters can see freezing temperatures as well. With such a fluctuation in the climate, it is important to have air conditioned warehouse facilities to protect shipments coming in and going out. The storage facilities in particular must be controlled, but the loading areas are also places where temperatures can damage sensitive shipments. Temperatures on loading docks must also be controlled.
