Do Courier Drivers Work On A Commission Basis?

Commissions are usually paid to people who work in sales. They serve as an incentive to sell more stuff. Most sales people are paid almost exclusively on a commission basis. Chicago medical courier drivers are typically not sales people. They are hired only to move a package from one location to another. Increasing sales is not usually part of their job, so they do not get paid a commission. Drivers are eligible to receive bonuses based on their job performance, but commissions are reserved for sales people.

There are some drivers, however, that are also sales people. Many of the large beer and beverage companies charge their delivery drivers with sales as well. They encourage their drivers to service their accounts in a way to generate the maximum sales possible. These drivers are essentially salespeople with a commercial driver's license. They transport product from the warehouse to customers, and routinely carry more than was ordered. The drivers then use certain sales tactics to increase the amount of their invoices.

One of these tactics is bulk discounts. Beer kegs are a good example. Beer delivery drivers often carry more beer than was initially ordered. Many companies offer discounts on their keg prices for five keg or ten keg purchases. These drivers will attempt to get their customers to buy more kegs by getting them to take advantage of these deals, which result ultimately in a cost savings for the customer. They might pay more this trip, but might not need a delivery at all the next time.

Offering lucrative commissions is a way that businesses use to attract the most talented sales people. Some delivery companies might use commissions as well to attract the most talented drivers. They might pay commissions on the amount of product that is delivered on time, giving the best drivers incentives to efficiently handle the largest loads on any given day. Often as well, they will provide bonuses based on a driver's ability to make deliveries early or on time. The more deliveries that are made on time, the more deliveries a company can make in total.

Drivers are usually not sales people. In some situations, delivery drivers are in a good position to assess a customer's needs and sell product. These drivers are often offered a commission based on the sales that they generate. However, Chicago medical courier drivers usually do not get paid on commission.
