Do Courier Company Drivers Earn A Commission?

By:

Do New Jersey courier services drivers earn a commission? That depends on the size of the company they work for. Commissions do not mean the same thing for couriers as for salesmen, for one thing.

You may have noticed that when you go into a massive downtown mall and into the store of a huge name-brand jeweler, the salesman will smile at you, perhaps nod you to a seat, and, if he is with other customers, get back to you as soon as he can. A smaller jewelry store salesman will rocket out of the backroom and have a hundred possible jewelry pieces in front of you in minutes, literally shaking with excitement as he tries to make a sale. You can be pretty sure that the second salesman works strictly on commission, what he sells is what he earns, period. New Jersey courier services drivers don't have it quite that tough.

Generally, the larger and more well-established the company is, the more likely it is that they pay their drivers a commission. Some New Jersey courier services have been in business much longer than that well-established jewelry store in the mall has been, and they regularly pay commissions on packages delivered by their drivers.

Commissions are paid to courier service drivers for several reasons:

a.It keeps the driver happy and loyal to the company, since Courier Delivery companies, like anyone else in the big business world, use higher wages to compete for the best drivers.

b.It's an incentive to the driver to perform at his best. If a courier is paid the same whether he is delivering packages or not, he tends to under-value his work; after all, he is getting the same (low) salary no matter how well he does. The commission payment inspires excellence.

c.It promotes customer satisfaction. The driver performing at his best will reflect well on his courier company, the customer will be happy and the company will get repeat business. Everybody wins.

Finally, the commission makes good business sense. More and more businesses everywhere, including the pizza parlor down the street, are starting to realize that offering commissions to inspire good service is just plain smart, for the company and the customer alike. New Jersey courier services have no less business savvy, and many courier services throughout the city are offering their service professionals this valuable incentive. Customer service is always number one.
