When out of money and unable to find work, often times can look hopeless. However, for many who have found the alternative reality of temporary employment, others are making ends meet best as possible in this economic downtown. As such, if in need of temporary or permanent employment, one may want to check with a local temp agency to see what openings are available in the area in which one resides, or is willing to relocate.
In large part, this is because that even when the economy may look rather dismal and big companies are laying off employees, most such employees are receiving benefits. So, by hiring a contract or temporary employee, one can often pay either the same or a lower hourly rate without the associated costs of benefits in order to have the same work completed by a contract or temporary employee. As such, most employment agencies, temporary agencies, placement firms and others generally have work even in a down economy.
Of course, before going to work for a temp agency, often one must pass a number of clerical and office tests. As such, if familiar with various software packages, rusty on typing speed, or need to polish up in other areas, one may want to do so before visiting such an agency. For, while temporary agencies offer temporary work, at times one can be offered a permanent job from such employment.
Of course, depending on how desperate one is to obtain money, one must decide for oneself whether taking a job that may pay on a weekly versus a monthly basis may be more beneficial than such monthly unemployment benefits. In addition, one must also remember that such benefits are only allowed for a specific amount of time under most Federal and State guidelines. As such, most often individuals find that working temporary jobs on a regular basis through one or more temporary agencies can provide a better overall sense of income than do such benefits.
In addition, whether one is looking for long or short-term employment, it is often to be flexible when working jobs for such agencies. For, while one may be looking for longer term employment, one may want to consider that many short-term temporary jobs have often become permanent jobs in the past. Also, while some are given a label of temp to perm employment, others are received on merit by the work one performs when requested as a temporary employee.
As such, if one is interested in working full-time on a job one has been assigned as a temporary, one may want to let the agency know of such interest. For, if the agency knows one is interested in a full-time job, often one can work out such details with clients. Of course, as employers must often pay a fee to agencies for such employees, not all are as willing to hire temporary employees as others, still it never hurts to ask.
However, there are few things one need consider before asking about becoming a permanent employee, whether based on such a job through a temporary agency or a local permanent recruitment office. For example, one needs to be sure and understand that while one makes one rate as a temporary, hourly rates on a permanent basis, especially with a company who offers benefits may be much lower. Also, if one is uncertain of how long one can commit to such a permanent job, it is better if one can work as a temporary as long as possible rather than taking a job one knows one can not commit to on a long-term basis.
To this end, whether an individual works through
temp agencies, a permanent recruitment office, human resources firm, or otherwise, one needs to be sure one knows the current hourly rate for a variety of jobs. For, whether one is going to work a permanent or temporary job, one wants to be sure one is being paid fairly for the type of work involved. As such, one may want to review a variety of jobs and current salary rates to assure one knows what different jobs normally pay when offered such an assignment.
