Part of Hong Kongs rich cultural heritage is its filmmaking industry which spans a century and has led to the country being referred to as the Hollywood of the East. In order to commemorate and celebrate the individuals who have played a pivotal part in this industry through the ages, the attraction known as the Avenue of Stars was created.
Ideal for families and film buffs, this fascinating attraction is located along Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade which is also a great spot from which to witness the Symphony of Lights at night. Opened to the public on 28th April 2004, the Avenue of Stars initially honoured 100 film personalities and professionals in a series of plaques, milestones and even handprints of famous Hong Kong film celebrities.
Among the stars honoured along the walk include, legendary martial arts exponent and actor Bruce Lee who starred in such international hits as Way of the Dragon and Enter the Dragon, actor and stuntman extraordinaire Jackie Chan who has such hits as Drunken Master and Rush Hour, martial arts star Jet Li whose credits include Once Upon a Time in China and Lethal Weapons 4 and action superstar Chow Yun Fat who has taken part in such classics as A Better Tomorrow and the Academy award winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Other featured personalities on the Avenue of Stars include critically acclaimed actress Maggie Cheung and actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai, female action superstar Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng, action director John Woo Yu Sum whose helmed such classics as A Better Tomorrow and Face Off and multi award winning director Wong Kar Wai whose film Happy Together won the coveted Best Director at the 1997Cannes Film Festival.
