So, now you have your 4-year college degree and are interested in going abroad and to fund your trip you want to get certified to teach English abroad. Many individuals want to know if there is are a lot of classes required to obtain the certification.

It actually depends somewhat on which country you want to teach English. The Asian countries are easier on certifications than Europe due to their higher demand for native English speaking teachers. The program time depends on which type of certification you are going to want. The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses are not the same in length because it's not a fixed certification, different schools will simply have different lengths and so forth. However, if time is a concern, the TEFL or TESOL certification can be finished either in a classroom environment or online; it really depends on where you want to do it. The fee will also be different from school to school. An excellent illustration, one can get your TESOL certification for $199 if you enroll in a 50-hour certification program or you can choose a $1,000, 120 hour certification. It's a 4-week full-time classroom environment with at least 120 classroom hours and six hours minimum teaching.

The certifications with the most dignififed status are: CELTA and TESOL. Each of these programs are a minimum of 120 hours, normally more, plus 6 hours of supervised instruction. Both of these programs are seen as equals, so you can't go wrong if you obtain either one. There is one thing people often make a mistake with and that is the term, "TOEFL".
