Discover The Benefits Of Pet Steps

By:

Amazingly, pet steps for dogs are a fantastic idea. While many people have scoffed at the idea, millions of dog owners have discovered the benefits. Pet steps for dogs solve many problems. They are great for dogs suffering from physical limitations such as age, size, weight or health issues. They benefit healthy dogs susceptible to certain breed specific health issues. And, they allow dogs to reach high windows to look outside.

As we age, we become less active and simple tasks become more difficult and sometimes even painful. The same is true for dogs. As dogs age, they may develop hip dysplasia, joint or back pain, arthritis or other health issues making it harder and more painful to scale sofas, beds and other areas in the home. Pet steps reduce pressure on the back and joints making these activities easier and less painful.

For small pets, pet stairs are particularly useful. Jumping onto sofas and beds can be a challenge for some small breeds and they can injure themselves in the process. Not only do pet stairs make it easier for small pets to reach their destination but they also help to reduce the risk of injury.

Overweight pets face the same issues as smaller dogs. Many times they have a difficult time getting on and off of couches and beds and may hurt themselves in their attempts to do so. Pet steps provide a safe and simple way for pets to access their favorite places.

The use of pet steps for younger pets may provide an invaluable benefit for the long-term health of your dog. It is common for specific breeds to be predisposed to certain health conditions. For example, dachshunds are prone to spinal problems. Encouraging jumping in this breed can cause shock on the disks. Jumping in any breed puts a lot of stress on the back and joints and can lead to arthritis or back injury. These problems can be alleviated by promoting the use of pet steps for dogs.

Many apartment dwellers have windows that are too high off the ground for pets to see outside. This can be a dilemma for pets that love to see their surroundings and when left at home, they can become frustrated. A portable pet staircase is the perfect solution. You simply place the pet steps flush against the wall and your dog can walk up the staircase to peer outside.

Pet steps for dogs are usually constructed of plastic or wood. Wood steps are sturdier and typically a little more expensive. Some steps are carpeted while others have non-skid surfaces. They are also available in different heights so you should have no problem finding a set to meet your needs.

Choosing the right stairs is important. Before purchasing steps, make sure your dog does not exceed the suggested weight limit. Also, check to see that the stairs are the proper height for their intended purpose. If you are using the steps so your dog can get on the couch or bed, measure the distance from the floor to the top of the furniture. If you need stairs so your dog can look out the window, measure the distance from the floor to the windowsill.

There is much to gain by utilizing pet steps in your home. They make accessing favorite locations almost effortless for dogs of all ages and sizes. They also assist pets with deteriorating health in reaching difficult to climb areas while reducing pressure on their back and joints. Initially, it may take your dog a little time to adjust to the pet steps. However, once familiar with them, he or she will love them.
