By:

Constructing a pool deck will make your pool more enjoyable while providing a place to entertain guests and relax. A deck plan that complements your pool area can provide a central place where you can enjoy your pool, unwind, or entertain your friends during the summer season.

Why You Need a Pool Deck Plan

A pool deck plan will furnish all the necessary details so you can successfully build a deck by yourself. It will have all the detail steps that show you step-by-step how to go about building a deck. Your plan will have all the dimensions, material needed and tools you'll need to have on hand to make the building process go smoothly and easily.

Choosing the Right Pool Deck Plan

There are all sorts of deck designs that you can find in books or download from the internet. Before you settle on a special type of deck you need to give some thought as to how it will fit in with your pool area.

As part of your preliminary planning you'll need to decide if you want a freestanding structure or a deck that is attached to the house. With a freestanding deck it will be next to the pool or may even surround it, but the attached deck will connect the house and the pool. In most cases, a freestanding deck is somewhat easier to construct than one that is attached to the house.

If you're thinking about a standalone deck you'll then have to decide if you want a platform deck, a single side deck, or an all around deck.

The Platform Style Deck

A platform deck is simply an elevated platform that stands next to the pool. It provides a place for you to sit by the pool. A single side deck usually covers one end of the pool. This kind of deck is somewhat bigger than a platform deck and has enough area to place a table and some chairs. The all around deck totally surrounds the pool and provides access to the pool from anyplace. Because the all around deck provides the greatest area you can add a grill or unbrellas to make it more useable.

Single Side Deck Designs

This is one of the most basic designs that feature a side entrance stairway. The stairs lead to a main deck area where there is enough room for a few lounge chairs and other furniture.

To make a single side deck more appealing you can add stairs in the center instead of at the corner. The staircase should be placed on a 45 degree angle to make it look more fashionable. Because it is at the center of the deck it has the effect of dividing the main deck space into two distinct areas. You can have one area that has a table and chairs for dining and in the other area some lounge chairs for sunbathing.

There may be occasions where a privacy screen is a nice addition to a deck area. Railings are always a nice touch to a deck and a trellis is an elegant way of creating a shaded area.

All-Around Deck Designs

In many cases an all around deck will also have a stairway set into it which will lead to the main deck area. One of the main features of this design is a walkway a few feet wide that provides an interesting deck plan.

A lot of novel deck plans these days include a fence, which gives you a sense of security. In addition it makes the deck more aestheically appealing.

A pool house can also be a great addition to a pool deck. It gives you a space to relax, spend some time with your family, and entertain guests.
